The short answer is any SkyMiles member can access free in-flight Wi-Fi for things like checking flight status, downloading in-flight entertainment, or using the Deltalink II system. This really does put Deltawifi com ahead of the competition, as it allows all customers to mainly stream content on their mobile devices without having to worry about overages. Of course this has led to some complete outage nonsense with the Delta app…but that's another story.
The airline offers two options for in-flight Wi-Fi access: Personal Gogo Inflight Internet service at $14 per hour or $25 for 24 hours. You'll need to register with your credit card when you purchase this option and can only use it on flights that offer it. To date, Delta has not yet introduced its own Gogo pass for business travelers who might fly multiple times during a given month. However, that's expected to change soon. Delta Sky Club access ($29 per month) for Sky Club members who want to use their mobile device as a hotspot for other devices such as laptops or tablets. You can use Delta's free Wi-Fi if you're traveling in coach, but if you want to use it in business class or first class, you'll have to pay for that seat. If you're traveling with an infant or child on your lap, they won't count toward your seat total and you can use the Wi-Fi without paying extra.
